Youtube : Android Wear VS Apple Watch: Software Comparison

0:00   what's going on guys lawn here from Andrew thority and apples take on what a
0:03   smart watch it be it's finally here but how does it stack up to Google's Android
0:08   where will it go ahead and compare the two and see what similar what's
0:12   different
0:13   and find out so just as a quick disclaimer this is going to be more or
0:20   less a software comparison because the hardware will vary based on what Andrew
0:25   were smart watch you have the for the sake of this video will be using the LG
0:29   watcher ban because it's currently the only Android where SmartWatch to be
0:33   running the latest five-point 1.1 update with the 5.1 update both and run where
0:38   and apples watch the West 1.0 couldn't be more similar to one another
0:43   aesthetically they may look very different but when you boil it all down
0:46   these wearable do practically the same thing both send and receive
0:51   notifications answer phone calls track business data and have customizable
0:57   watch faces on top of a laundry list of other things and most importantly they
1:02   still tell the time that isn't to say that there are any differences there
1:06   definitely are and even their similarities have differences like James
1:10   Franco said in the movie the interview there same same but different
1:15   let's start with how each OS handles notifications with injured where
1:21   notification show up in a card style format polyp in a vertical list as more
1:26   and more notifications are received all of them can easily be dismissed with a
1:30   simple swipe and many of them are actionable like sending a reply to a
1:34   text message or email
1:35   deleting them or opening the respective application on the phone directly from
1:40   the watch with Apple's watch a West anytime a notification arrives it'll
1:44   briefly popped up on the display and disappear if you happen to miss the
1:49   notification or want to see all your notifications at a single glance you can
1:53   swipe down from the top of the display to reveal the notification shade and
1:57   also dismissed them from here unlike Andrew we're only certain applications
2:01   can be responded to from the watch make notifications on the Apple watch feel
2:06   slightly less robust apps like hang out and Gmail will require you to open them
2:11   on the phone but notifications from ass like apples on my message can be
2:15   responded to within can message or voice dictation speaking of voice dictation
2:20   just like their phone OS counterparts on Android where you're dealing with Google
2:24   now and Syria on the Apple watch as to which one you prefer that'll be purely
2:29   up to you but with Google now integration on Android where this means
2:32   any cars that you normally get on your phone or tablet like sports scores stock
2:37   and whether we'll also show up on your watch here he doesn't necessarily offer
2:41   that with the Apple watch but swiping up from the bottom of the display will
2:45   reveal what Apple calls glances which can offer a lot of the same type of
2:49   information that one might get from Google now glasses also a hub for a
2:54   bunch of other things like media controls navigation and even Instagram
2:59   and Twitter if you'd like for fitness junkies both OS's are capable of
3:03   tracking calories burned exercise heart rate and the Apple watch even remind you
3:08   to stand if it thinks you've been sitting idle for too long there's
3:12   possibly a third party and hardware after does the same thing but the out of
3:16   the box experience doesn't offer this feature watch faces are also highly
3:20   customizable on either or less but as of right now there's many more options on
3:24   Android where which is most likely due to the open nature of the platform and
3:29   its third party support but along with the appearance watch faces on both can
3:33   be customized to show pertinent information like battery life
3:36   current date and whether among many other things with a 5.1 update Google
3:41   add some new features to Android we're like wi-fi support to allow the watch to
3:45   sink without a Bluetooth connection westchester subscribed to notifications
3:49   by clicking the wrist screen lock a dedicated app in contact screen and the
3:55   ability to send emojis with the exception of WiFi support and risk
3:59   jesters all these features are also available on the Apple watch but again
4:03   both OS's handled them differently for example screen lock on Android where is
4:08   a pattern whereas on the Apple watch it's a pin and the apps on Android where
4:13   it's a simple vertical scrolling list versus a series of flooding circles on a
4:17   black background on the Apple watch which may look confusing at first but
4:21   it's actually a lot easier to navigate the you might think these differences
4:25   are rather negligible but their differences nonetheless the biggest
4:29   difference between these two wearable platforms is how they both feel and
4:33   hardware feels like a companion to your smartphone by only give you the
4:37   essentials without being a floor on distraction while the Apple watch feels
4:41   like it's trying to be a miniaturized version of your phone because it
4:45   practically does everything your phone can do including taking phone calls
4:48   directly from the watch and making purchases with Apple pay most of the
4:53   disparity really has to do with the app selection even though the Apple watch is
4:57   still very new there's already a wide selection of applications available that
5:02   you won't find on Android where at least not right now while you may receive
5:06   notifications from Instagram and Twitter on your wrist with Android where you
5:10   still have to plug your phone to access the application with the Apple watch you
5:14   can actually scroll to Instagram or Twitter and like comment favorite and
5:19   retweet just like you would on the full blown out in even a car ride all without
5:24   taking your phone in your pocket
5:27   surely this could all change in the future as these two wearable operating
5:30   systems go head-to-head and evolve the same where their mobile operating system
5:34   counterpart
5:35   have involved both have their advantages and disadvantages and while they share a
5:40   lot in common the experiences are very different and it's going to come down to
5:44   personal preference just like it always has in this never-ending war of mobile
5:49   operating system or guess in this case wearable operating system as always guys
